Paula Martins de Brito is a Senior Lecturer (Adjunct Professor) at the Escola Superior de Gestão, Hotelaria e Turismo (School of Management, Hospitality and Tourism), University of the Algarve (UAlg). She has a first degree in Marketing and a Masters degree in Cultural Management (Université Paris and UAlg). She has professional experience in the tourism sector, including tourism marketing and promotion, air transport and managing cultural tourism projects (Promotion and Welcome Services). Her research interests include tourism planning, socio-economic organisations (especially local development agencies) and their articulation with the tourism sector. She has published nationally and internationally in the tourism area and has presented papers at many international congresses. She has participated in several national and international research projects, including "Turismo cultural en América Latina y Europa: Investigación, formación y desarrollo regional" ("Cultural Tourism in Latin America and Europe: Research, training and development"), which is coordinated by the University of Barcelona and is integrated in the IBERTUR network (Portugal, Spain and Latin America). She was part of the research team for the study "A Situação do Turismo Cultural em Portugal: estudos de caso de Faro, Silves e Tavira" (Cultural tourism in Portugal: case studies of Faro, Silves and Tavira"). She has also worked with the ATLAS network (European Association for Tourism and Leisure Education) in the application of questionnaires and the creation of databases relating to the profile of visitors to historic sites in the Algarve. She was part of the research team for the study "Faro, Capital Nacional da Cultura 2005" ("Faro, National Capital of Culture 2005") which looked at the impacts of the event on tourism. She is currently finishing her doctoral thesis at the University of Aveiro.
